Hello! My name is Mrs. Pearl. Thank you for stopping by 1st Choice Reading! If you are like me, you prefer to know a little background on who has an influence on your child's education.

My family and I are currently located in Orange Park, Florida. I have prior experience teaching ELA and Special Education in Texas and Florida as well as reading tutoring in Smithfield, Virginia and online. I also have experience homeschooling during the pandemic and most recently provided reading tutoring for 1st - 6th grade my children's local school district.

It is my goal to help your child succeed by recognizing their specific needs and individualizing their learning experience with me.

In addition to reading, 1st Choice now offers K-12 math and a variety of music lessons including voice, piano, guitar, and theory with experienced tutor and excelled college student, Nathan. I am proud to have my brother, Nathan, on board at 1st Choice Reading where our goal is to help your child succeed this year and beyond!

~ Curriculum ~

Language Arts by Michael Clay Thompson

"The MCT language arts curriculum is a comprehensive, multilevel curriculum designed to provide children with a thorough understanding of the English language. Michael is a master at welcoming children into the beauty of the language and of introducing them to its simplicity, its clarity, and its usefulness."

Scholastic

Scholastic Storyworks and Scholastic Scope magazines contain engaging stories and everything you need to build language arts skills. I will not use controversial materials at any point during my tutoring.

Individualized Lessons

As I become familiar with your student and their specific needs, I will introduce materials catered to strengthening their weaknesses. This may include resources pulled from my vault and from valuable sources such as Teachers Pay Teachers.

"It is easy to see how letter reversals happen: flip the b and it becomes a d. The beginning reader or dyslexic child may not realize that the direction of the letter matters, or he may not be able to remember which letter is which..."

"Does your child skip small words when he’s reading?

Skipping small words is actually a very common problem...but the truth is that many adults skip words as well."

"There are many things that standardized tests can’t measure.

Tests can’t predict who will “succeed” in life, regardless of your definition of success..."

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill shares reading comprehension tips.

"Does your child seem to constantly be on the move or just can’t sit still? Do they have trouble catching, reading and writing, and balancing? Although these problems can sometimes be multifactorial and difficult to understand, there is one thing that they all have in common..."
